G77 Chair Calls for Global Attention to Sustainable Urban Development

Speaking at the United Nations today in Fiji's capacity as 2013 Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Fijian Ambassador Peter Thomson said that sustainable urban development has become "one of the most pressing global challenges of the 21st Century".  He called for sustainable cities to be given all due attention in the formulation of the Post-2015 development agenda.

At the United Nations today, Fiji called for greater international attention to the acute problems of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).   Speaking in Fiji's capacity as Chair of the 133-member Group of 77 and China, Permanent Representative, Ambassador Peter Thomson, told the UN's Second Committee, "bold actions and strengthened partnership for development are urgently required."

Speaking in Fiji’s capacity as 2013 Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has called upon the United Nations system to deliver on its mandate of poverty eradication.  Fiji’s Ambassador Peter Thomson told the UN’s Second Committee today, that an explicit mandate has been given to the UN system to “assign the highest priority to poverty eradication.”
