Formalization of Diplomatic Relations between Fiji and Cambodia

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Fiji formalized diplomatic relations at a signing ceremony in New York on Thursday, 27 May. Fiji was represented at the ceremony by Ambassador Peter Thomson and Counsellor Luke Daunivalu of the Fiji Mission to the United Nations.

In raising a post-signing toast to friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Fiji, Ambassador Dr. Sea Kosal of Cambodia welcomed the forging of the relationship between the two Asia-Pacific countries.

 

Returning the Cambodian Ambassador’s welcome, Ambassador Thomson said that Cambodia was recognized as a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement and that Fiji had recently applied to join NAM. He said that Fiji wishes to formalize diplomatic relations with all the Member States of the United Nations. Fiji’s initiative was aimed at building relationships with the full breadth of the international community of nations. In the last three months, Fiji has formalized diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eritrea, Georgia, Macedonia, Myanmar and the United Arab Emirates.
