Cote d'Ivoire and Fiji Formalise Diplomatic Relations

The Republic of Cote d’Ivoire and the Republic of Fiji formalised diplomatic relations in a ceremony at the Fiji Mission to the United Nations in New York today. At the ceremony, the Permanent Representative of Cote d’Ivoire to the United Nations, Ambassador Youssoufou Bamba, and his Fijian counterpart, Ambassador Peter Thomson, signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Peter Thomson, and Ambassador-at-Large Major General Ioane Naivalurua today completed a three-day visit to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI). While in Iraq they met with officials of the Government of Iraq, with UNAMI officials, and with the Fijian Guard Unit at UNAMI.

The annual session of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations commenced in New York this morning.  The Permanent Representative of Nigeria, Ambassador Joy Ogwu, was re-elected as Chair of the Special Committee.
