Russia and Fiji Bilateral Meeting

Fijian Prime Minister, Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama, held a bilateral meeting today at the United Nations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Minister Lavrov warmly congratulated the Prime Minister for the successful completion of the Fiji general elections and for the Prime Minister's victory. Prime Minister Bainimarama thanked Russia for its most helpful participation in the Multinational Observer Group that oversaw the Fiji elections.

The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between Russia and Fiji, with both sides expressing satisfaction at the steady progress being made. The Fijian Prime Minister thanked Minister Lavrov for the educational opportunities that Russia has offered Fiji and other Pacific Islands at the federal university in Vladivostok.  He said that Fiji intended to respond positively to this offer.

The meeting noted with further satisfaction the upcoming attendance of eight Fijian diplomats and military officers at the Russian Service Institute in Moscow.

The Prime Minister welcomed the expected visit to Fiji in early 2015 of the Defence Minister of Russia."
