Foreign Ministers from Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, Senator Bob Carr, the Hon Murray McCully and Ratu Inoke Kubuabola today continued trilateral discussions in New York, where they are participating in the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting was held at Fiji’s Mission to the United Nations.

Ministers discussed implementation of the outcomes from their meeting in Sydney on 30 July 2012, including progress towards the exchange of High Commissioners.  

Ministers discussed the progress being made in the electronic voter registration, and in the work of the Constitutional Commission. Ministers discussed the possibility of a further visit by the Pacific Islands Forum Ministerial Contact Group in November.

Ministers discussed the more flexible implementation of sanctions on a case-by-case basis by Australia and New Zealand, as agreed at the last trilateral meeting.

Ministers discussed the early departure of the ILO mission to Fiji last week and the importance of an early return of the mission to Fiji.

Senator Carr, Minister McCully and Minister Kubuabola reaffirmed their intention to continue to consult closely on progress towards elections in Fiji in 2014 and to work together to support Fiji's return to democracy.
